Herodontics – A professional social
networking platform |
Web 2.0 and the social media wave has created a range of new opportunities on the web. Along with the hype, there are incredible value creating applications with compelling immediate and future impact on the way we live and work. This month’s feature spotlight is around using social media and creating industry or functional specific portal sites.
We recently had the opportunity to create a full featured professional social networking platform called Herodontics. Developed with our partner 16 Toads, this site is a community for Dentists and Dental Professionals. The platform allows individuals to create profiles, join specific groups, participate in blogs, upload case studies and get updates on jobs and related news. This application is the first of its kind that will allow dentists to share their case studies and compete for the Honorarium which recognizes the single best case study of the year. To effectively develop this, we used an open source platform/engine to adopt basic social networking features and successfully created plug-ins to add functionality and customize the platform to meet the specific project requirements.

| World Images – An Art Portal |
| World Images is a website that effectively sifts through and aggregates images from online art websites and offers the best images in terms of quality, diversity and value. We provide ongoing support and enhancements to this site like Interactive DHTML menus to ensure smooth browsing through the different categories. Godrej Interio, India’s largest furniture manufacturer, recently launched an innovative and stylish chair that is ergonomically designed for optimum comfort. Azul Arc created a flash based presentation that highlighted the attractive and unique product features. The highlight of our inventive presentation was a 360 degree animation of the chair that illustrated all its
unique features. |

| Product manufacturers are increasingly using 3D renderings to illustrate their products. This virtual boardroom was created according to client’s specifications. Neutral finishes and colors are applied to surfaces and furniture giving the manufacturer the opportunity to choose a wide range of colors and patterns when applying their product. In the book “The World is Flat”, the author mentions Open Source as one of the forces that is changing the dynamics of business today. At Azul Arc, we have been building expertise at using open source platforms and components to build solutions for our clients – the value this delivers is significant. One great resource that we used for the social networking site we highlighted above is called “Elgg”. Elgg is a powerful, full featured platform that empowers individuals, groups and institutions to create their own fully-featured social network.
