Winter is coming, and that can only mean one thing for the team here at Azul Arc Atlanta: The Great Thermostat Battle of 2014 has officially commenced. The next several weeks will no doubt be filled with heated (or not) discussions on whether 68°F is actually the optimal temperature for saving energy during the colder months.
As similar thermostat debates carry on across the country, we thought it might be helpful to share with you a new way to address these energy and cost efficiency issues year-round. The only downside? You might end up without an excuse for wearing that holiday Snuggie wherever you go…
We can deal. Now give us the details.
A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to attend Greenbuild, the world’s largest sustainability conference and expo geared toward, well, green building. Aside from a general interest in green products, we were there to support a client project called MyGreenPayback that’s been nearly a year in the making.
MGP founder, Paul Shahriari, introducing the app at Greenbuild.
MGP is a web-based app that calculates the return on investment of green household items such as refrigerators, toilets, and (you guessed it) thermostats to help you make purchases that are more environmentally and wallet friendly. The app was recently adopted by two major companies, TOTO and ASSA ABLOY, who both use it to aggregate sustainability-oriented manufacturing data for consumers. ASSA ABLOY has taken the app a step further by implementing a product rating system.
L-R: Zahir Palanpur (President, Azul Arc), William Strang (President of Ops, TOTO), Paul Shahriari.
Seeing one of our projects at play in front of such a large audience was a great feeling, and we look forward to expanding on the app’s functionality as more and more users send in their feedback. Here’s hoping that MGP will make a lasting impression on the sustainability industry and, more importantly, prevent future thermostat battles in the office and at home!
But wait, there's more!
